Fillings
- A filling is used for chipped or decayed teeth to restore them back to function
- Usually we use a tooth-coloured resin material
- For larger fillings or for cracked teeth porcelain or gold may be used to restore your tooth – this can be referred to as an onlay or inlay
Crowns
- A crown is like a helmet for your tooth. It helps to support and protect your tooth from chipping or breaking. This is especially important following root canal therapy which can make the tooth more brittle or when the tooth has a very large filling.
- The type of crown will depend on the tooth that needs it but is usually made of porcelain or gold. Crowns (also known as caps) can also be used to improve aesthetics to change the contour or colour of the tooth.
